scared again today

Death has been another big topic again today. On the way to karate tonight he asked if it hurt when he died. I want to be truthful with him trying not to lie but answer in a way appropriate for his age. After babbling a bit with this and trying to assure him he was safe with him, he would be fine, he doesn't have to worry about it yet, etc. He specifically asks about one way of dying. He asks if it hurts IF we drown. I try to get more info out of him like where he was hearing this, why he would think it etc. He said he thought when you drown, you would be choking and it would hurt. It makes me so sad that he has death on his mind a lot. but we have talked about death before when it comes to my dad and such and again I don't want to lie to him, but this is a hard topic. He then started talking about how he can drown, his life jacket slipping off, being cut off, falling off, etc. :( my poor baby.
Then just a few minutes ago he comes out of his room scared and in tears about death again. He asks me "f someone shoots a bear and it falls over dead will it make a big earthquake? I said “oh honey there are no bears around here, why are you thinking of earthquakes for anyway“. He then replies that a big earthquake will make him dead and he doesn't want to be dead. awe so sad, so hard. I tell him bears are at the zoo, there are no bears around us here, the zoo is far far away. No one is going to the zoo to kill or shoot the bear and no bears don't make big earthquakes when they die so he will be ok. Lots o hugs and kisses later and telling him again he is safe with me. I think it is normal for all kids to go through stages like these, it is just so hard for me to see him hurting.

Let's see...

We have had a busy week as always, karate, playdates, haircuts, errands, etc . We had comp, any over both Friday and Saturday night, so I had to clean the house so much Friday afternoon, but I am glad I "had" to, since it was so needed. Michael and I are not feeling so well, it hit his this weekend and I am real nervous, having to get up t 2:45 all week, with about 5 hours of sleep each night. Bible study starts this week, so that is one more weeknight we will be gone, Michael also starts going to my Gym on Saturdays for 1 hour and most likely each Wednesday too.

I was able to scrapbook with a friend this weekend and it was such a blessing. I got 3 pages done and it felt so god. Michael crafted with us too, so my office now needs another good cleaning.. lol

I just ordered 50 more pictures too of the past month, so I am excited to get those and have some new inspiration to work with.

Michael is doing so much better in karate, we just had his 6th lesson and I am happy it is not over in 10-12 or so like most of his other sports, it seems he finally gets into something just about the time it is over. This goes all year long and something he can continue if he wants to all the way through his lifetime.

He is loving kindergarten, comes home each day with a million things to tell me and loves practicing his songs, stories and spelling his color words they are working on. His teacher did tell me though he is having a hard time following directions and so I am trying real hard to work with him on that. He has the same issues here at home and at karate too, he is just so cute (and he knows is) and acts all silly and goofy at times instead of shaping up and getting things done.

Well Michael is ready for dinner, he is going to bed in less then an hour since he and I both need sleep, so I better go find something to throw at him to eat. Oh and my once a month cooking thing at the church starts up again in a few weeks too, so fresh freezer meals that are fast and way to cook.. will be so nice to have again.

ok I fixed him a fast quesadilla(sp) and came back, I forgot there was more I wanted to type about.

We are thinking about Halloween costumes and trying to decide what he wants to be. After going through what he was in the past, his first new idea was to be the red Spiderman, since he was the black one lat year. That would be fine, but costumes are $30 and I have a hared time spending that much for one night. I thought I had a plan and a way to get him a costume, but that is not panning out so good. We were ready "cat in the hat" last night and I saw thing 1 and thing 2 and thought that would be cute. He has a read shirt that says :"thing 2" on it and thought oh my how easy it would be to go out and get a plan red footed pj and red gloves with a blue wig and he is set.. or a red turtleneck and red sweatpants. then just throw the red t-shirt on over the top. Also going with this idea, the blue wig is the only non reg. clothing we have to buy, the rest I wouldn't mind paying for since he could wear it again and again, I also bet those could be found at Other Mother's or similar places.

Well looks like fall is year, the weather has changed so much the past few days and looks as if we may not get over 60 tomorrow. I spent both days last weekend making a ton of sprinkler system fixes, changes, upgrades and after I changed 7 sprinklers out, I noticed I missed one and 2 were the wrong kind, so I have to finish that job up still and then I changed out 8 more and then ran across a huge problem, which when we fixed it, we discovered the 8 I just changed have to go back to how they were.. sigh so it seems I have more work to do. Since they are all still freshly dug up it should go fast, but I hate going back and redoing things I just did and if the weather keeps being cold and misty I may not get the motivation to get them done. But I really really should, as I already have a list of things to do, change, repair and work on for next year, so getting these out of the way would be nice. Sigh! We got up half of the fence and the other half will be done this week, we are also making huge progress on the garage and still making sales on Craigslist to get rid of the huge pile of garage sale items.. yippee! ok I realty better go now.. more later.

WOW

What a very busy, jammed packed week. I have wanted to update this daily, but I have barely had a chance to sit down this week.

On Monday I of course had to work, but I got Michael right after school was out and we headed to the fair. It was was free admission day, so we walked around to the exhibits, animals, grabbed a bite to eat etc. It was nice to get out of the house and enjoy this fantastic weather.

On Tuesday I had the day off so Michael and I hung around in the morning then I took him to school. I had a few errands to run, hit the gym for 25min then came home for some yard work before I had to go pick up him. I got him at 3:10 and headed straight to karate. I made a deal with him that if he participated in class like he was supposed to that I would let him play PS2 when he got him. YAY It worked! He did so awesome in class, omg he was a different kid then the first 2 times for sure. He did his exercises, tried to say the words that went with them too (Hebrew counting) and was so fun to watch practising his self defense moves.

Wednesday I worked again, then came home to get some housework done, changed out 3 sprinklers in my front yard, yay they went to fast and so easy, 5 more to do :). I got Michael from school at 3:10 then we had a bit to play at home before we went and grabbed dinner and I had to drop him off at mom's house so I could attend curriculum night (only 30min) at his school. Afterwards, I did a few fast errands, then we hung with grandma for a bit eating ice cream.

That brings us to today, Thursday. I worked again today, then came home to pop out some school application materials, and do some office work, rushing to get done by 3pm before I have to go get Michael. I got most of it done, I need to finish up tomorrow along with a few more errands and drop it off to them by 3pm. I will get Michael here soon and we will head to karate again. Two times a week is sure nice for practice, but heard to get into the schedule at times. Afterwards we will rush back to do a fast bath (cleanup) before his dad comes and gets him for a few hours.

So many things are changing at work and I have some tough decisions, more searching and lots of praying to do about my upcoming job status. I will post all this in another post I think.

On top of all this above, I have been posting more things on Craigslist, cleaning out the garage, trying to keep up with housework and such, and then trying to cram in at least 4 hours of sleep each night.. nuts!!! I hope I get into a routine soon and I find a few extra hours here and there (possibly on Saturdays since I will soon have them all off! YIPPEEE) since I have to get my school work done for my last college course. It was due August 30th, but I have extended it into the fall quarter, I just really need to buckle down, pop out three 5 page papers and be done with it.. LOL yea simple right.. ugh I wish, I hate papers. I also need to finish the 50 question test, but I think I am about done with that. Michael may be heading to his dad's a bit more often (I hope) and like I said with weekends off and such, I need to find some play dates for Michael to go to so I can work on this stuff and get it done.. any volunteers? lol

Friday

Well nothing really going on today. I took Michael to my mom's at 3:30am like I always do the days I work. Gary (her boyfriend) then takes him to daycare around 8am, then they will take him to Kindergarten at 12:40 and pick him back up and back to daycare until I get off (If I have to substitute teach). Today I think I will get him from school at 3:10. I have so much I should do around the house, but it feels good just to sit. I should do laundry, dishes, clean up more of my office, my bedroom or the garage. I could even go mow the grass, or cut out and move sod. Sigh I even have to tidy up the bathroom since Michael made a mess of it last night during his bath where my bathroom floor was like a swimming pool, water not just splashed, but a layer of it, everywhere. I have a lady from craigslist coming to get something at 2 today, then I think I will try to take 1 hour and get something accomplished around the house somewhere.

Not sure on dinner tonight, something from the freezer probably, then just hanging out. I work again tomorrow, so another early night for me.

Pictures

Of his first day of Kindergarten, yes the first backpack was way too big and we downsized. He rode his bike to school, put away his backpack, found his desk and sounded like he had a real fine day.

And of him at Karate. Isn't he the cutest in his uniform?

Karate

Well we just finished the 2nd full class of Michael's karate. It has been like pulling teeth to get him out of his shyness and participate. It is a Christian run place (Spirit Martial Arts) so they really work on respect of adults, parents, practicing bible verses, etc. HE seems to get into it half way through the class, then wants to keep going after it is over as the remaining time just goes way too fast for him then. We will go 2 nights a week on Tuesday and Thursday and are getting a discount on our monthly tuition thanks to their back to school sign up special. He looks so cute in his little karate uniform. I took pictures of him and will hopefully post them later today along with his first day of K pictures. It is great that it is just north of the freeway on Pines so pretty close to the house. Well I need to go find out what we are going to have for dinner now.. later.

FEARS

Michael has been talking a lot about things he is afraid of lately. Some I can totally understand, But sad he is already thinking and worrying about them, where as others really catch me off guard. They seem to come up as a topic of discussion at night, when his body slows down and his brain keeps going, alone in a lowly lit room at bedtime. His main fear and the one that I try not to laugh about is gophers, yep gophers. He saw a cartoon one day where a gopher bit some kid and then the kid turned into a gopher and now he is afraid of them. Even though we don't have gophers in our yard, nor have I ever lived in a house where I have ever seen one, he is determined to let them bug him. I have tried to tell him we don't have any here, that they can't get in the house through the walls and concrete, etc. But he still asks about them and thinks of them getting him. Other ones are aliens and bombs, of course that I can see where he is coming from. I am sure he watches a lot of cartoons with these things in them, I just hope he will trust me that he is safe here with me and that these things are not real or we will never experience and therefore can't hurt him. I think there was one more funny one, but I am drawing blank as to what it is right now.

Labor Day Weekend

It seems we never ever have plans for Labor Day weekend besides sitting around the house or doing a BBQ for ourselves. This year was different. Yes I usually work Saturdays with my new job at Target, but since I had been filling in for the "chargeback" gal, I have had the past 4 off. YIPPEE!!! So last minute, like the Monday before Labor Day, I got some advice of a great campsite to visit, looked it up and YES there was an opening for Labor Day weekend, but 1 night only. Heck I will take it. So the weekend would be filled up with busyness and fun. Saturday we headed to Silverwood for a full fun filled day at the park. Afterwards we came back home, set the tent up ion the backyard (for practice and a lil camp out of our own) and camped out in the backyard. Sunday morning we finished packing for the camping trip and headed out to Farragut State Park in Idaho, just about 10min North of Silverwood. We showed up before we were allowed to check in just to use the site, play and have fun. We got there about 11am but were not allowed to check into our site til 2. That gave us 3 hours to ride bikes, play on the playground, eat lunch, etc. We stayed Sunday night only and left the site Monday around 12am and then hit Silverwood again for a few more hours before heading back to Spokane. We had dinner at Mom and Gary's and then came home to tidy up a ton before work and daycare started back the next day.

Camping was a new experience for Michael. He didn't mind the sleeping bags, the cold or the hard floor. but eating was a challenge for him. Of course I have never been camping in my adult life nor was I responsible for packing it all up and having the correct gear, etc. Heck we didn't even have a tent, we had to go buy one and a few other things. but still I found out I was missing a lot that would have made the weekend a lot easier, but live and learn and now wait for clearance sales at the end of the year :). He also didn't have a problem finding things to do. We went to the water and did some water/sand play for a bit one day, rode his bike for hours and hours and played at the playground. We had smores at night and played card games together. We had a lot of fun, but we did have issues when it came down to the food. The bees there were out of control and so it was hard to sit down and enjoy a good meal. lol not that there was a good meal available anyway. I found out how hard it is to camp and cook without the proper tools, but hey we survived. I wasn't all that hungry anyway and I guess Michael wasn't either. He wouldn't eat much of his dinner since a bee landed on it, or there were specks of this and that, etc. Smores were a great treat though and fun to make together. I love the spot we ended up with too, right next to the water spicket, the bathrooms and tot lot as it is called (playground). We can reserve spots up to 9months in advance, so as soon as December hits, I am reserving the same lot for next year, but for all 3 days and hopefully we will have some friends to join us too.

20lbs finally!

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My weight loss journey started Feb. 14th, 2008 (yes Valentine's day) and it has taken me a long time, with many ups and downs and months without heading to the gym, but hey I have been going through a divorce, new jobs, single parenting, etc.. lol things take time. But I finally did it. I met another goal. My first goal was 10lbs, did it. Then my goal was to get to 18lbs lost (half of the toal goal of 36lbs),.. did that. This goal that I met now, finally was 20lbs!!! I did it. I was at 18lbs lost in May, but June and July took me all over the place with a bunch of busyness and finally I got back on track, lost the few extra pounds I gained back and the last 2 to get to 20lbs!!!

First day of Kindergarten

I thought it would be a good idea to blog about the good or normal things that happen in my everyday life. This blog will hopefully be daily and a ton of rambling about things going on with Michael and I in our life. This will not only be to keep our friends and family updates, it will be a great record keeping, memory tracking device for me too as he ages about the fun little things he did and stages he went through.

Well since I have not ever done this there will be a lot of things I will want to go back on and fill in, just have have recorded here. but let's start current Today is Sept. 4, 2008 and the first day of Kindergarten for my lil man. He will be going to half day Kindergarten in the PM, at Chester Elementary. I love that it is so close to our house we are able to walk there. It will also be a good way for me to get out of the house and exercise by walking him there and back as often as I can (when I am not working). It takes about 10min one way, so that could be 40min of walking for me :) He doesn't seem that nervous or excited about it. We got him some new shirts to choose from and all his school supplies packed. I wished I could stay and see all the things he will be doing, how he interacts, if he has fun, etc. I got my camera ready for a few before school shots, so I can scrapbook those later too.

While he is at school I will need to run to the gym, the cereal sale that is going on today and then maybe Shopko to get a few more storage containers for my scrapbook room. Then I hope to come home (if any time left) and clean clean clean some more before I go get him. After school today we are heading right to Karate. He had his trial lesson last week and then on Tuesday we went to the family class at 6:30, but there was only 1 other boy his age there. This class at 3:45 is all for his age group which I think he MAY like better, but the time is impossible to get to if I work subbing that day. But since I don't work today and maybe not next week at all since the teachers are still gearing up into the year, I thought we may try a bit of both classes and let him choose. He looks so cute in his lil karate uniform. He got that for free for signing up too and yes I will get a pic of him in it tonight plus some pics of him doing his moves if I can without being too distracting.

Well my lil helper has stopped playing his "daddy's game" on the PS2 and needs my attention. I think this fills you in for today anyway, I hope to get another post in later today about some "past" things.
