It seems we never ever have plans for Labor Day weekend besides sitting around the house or doing a BBQ for ourselves. This year was different. Yes I usually work Saturdays with my new job at Target, but since I had been filling in for the "chargeback" gal, I have had the past 4 off. YIPPEE!!! So last minute, like the Monday before Labor Day, I got some advice of a great campsite to visit, looked it up and YES there was an opening for Labor Day weekend, but 1 night only. Heck I will take it. So the weekend would be filled up with busyness and fun. Saturday we headed to Silverwood for a full fun filled day at the park. Afterwards we came back home, set the tent up ion the backyard (for practice and a lil camp out of our own) and camped out in the backyard. Sunday morning we finished packing for the camping trip and headed out to Farragut State Park in Idaho, just about 10min North of Silverwood. We showed up before we were allowed to check in just to use the site, play and have fun. We got there about 11am but were not allowed to check into our site til 2. That gave us 3 hours to ride bikes, play on the playground, eat lunch, etc. We stayed Sunday night only and left the site Monday around 12am and then hit Silverwood again for a few more hours before heading back to Spokane. We had dinner at Mom and Gary's and then came home to tidy up a ton before work and daycare started back the next day.
Camping was a new experience for Michael. He didn't mind the sleeping bags, the cold or the hard floor. but eating was a challenge for him. Of course I have never been camping in my adult life nor was I responsible for packing it all up and having the correct gear, etc. Heck we didn't even have a tent, we had to go buy one and a few other things. but still I found out I was missing a lot that would have made the weekend a lot easier, but live and learn and now wait for clearance sales at the end of the year :). He also didn't have a problem finding things to do. We went to the water and did some water/sand play for a bit one day, rode his bike for hours and hours and played at the playground. We had smores at night and played card games together. We had a lot of fun, but we did have issues when it came down to the food. The bees there were out of control and so it was hard to sit down and enjoy a good meal. lol not that there was a good meal available anyway. I found out how hard it is to camp and cook without the proper tools, but hey we survived. I wasn't all that hungry anyway and I guess Michael wasn't either. He wouldn't eat much of his dinner since a bee landed on it, or there were specks of this and that, etc. Smores were a great treat though and fun to make together. I love the spot we ended up with too, right next to the water spicket, the bathrooms and tot lot as it is called (playground). We can reserve spots up to 9months in advance, so as soon as December hits, I am reserving the same lot for next year, but for all 3 days and hopefully we will have some friends to join us too.
